A quick search online and you will be amazed at the number of chicken coops for sale there are. Along with large chicken coops for sale that you would consider to be traditional there are some very strange designs as well. But before you do think about purchasing such an item as a chicken coop there are a number of things that you will need to take into consideration first.

Below we offer some advice to help you to then make a more informed decision as to what sort of chicken coop is going to be right for you.

1. The first thing you need to decide is do you want a coop that stands on the ground or is raised above it. Certainly if space in your garden is somewhat limited then going for one raised off the ground would be your best option.

2. Before you determine what size coop you want you should decide how many chickens you need to house in it. Remember each chicken you keep in the coop needs around 2 to 3 sq ft of space each. So if you are only able to have a small chicken coop in your garden you will only able to keep up to 5 chickens in it.

3. You must make sure that not only does the coop allow plenty of fresh air to circulate inside it but also prevent predators from accessing it easily. Make sure therefore that all the windows and air vents on the coop comes with a protective wire mesh covering. Plus having plenty of fresh air circulating through the coop will prevent ammonia and moisture building up inside it that can cause serious health problems for the chickens.
